I've had an eheim pro 3 2075 external filter running on my tank since late march and last week realised the flow was reduced quite a bit from what it used to be.

I decided to clean out the filter as it hadnt been done for 2 months which made the flow a bit better but I was still sure it wasnt as powerful as when the filter was first added. Anyway I thought I'd change to pipes as they were now about 4 1/2 months old and hadnt been cleaned so I ordered some new eheim tubing and tonight spent an hour doing a water change and replacing all the tubing on the eheim.

WOW, I didnt realise just how much the mucky pipes had affected the filters performance, it is now firing water out with velocity lol, something that you dont tend to notice as it slows down gradually over time you dont really realise exactly how much performance you are actually losing.

At the same time as buying the tubing, I also bought an eheim cleaning brush so I have cleaned the pipes that came off and will now alternate them every 3 months.

Just thought I'd post this as I was genuinely shocked at how much a little muck in the pipes were having such a negative effect on the water flow as this was the first time I've replaced the tubing.

:D

I have been through exactly the same, I knew my flow had reduced, but could not believe how much, after cleaning the pipes, I turned the filter back on with the water level slightly lower than normal and the spray pointing up

A mistake I won't be making again

LOL, you dont tend to realise just how much it has reduced since it slows down gradually over a period of time.

I'll be making sure I now keep on top of the pipe cleaning / changing
