Started off like this (they always look clean and fresh)

Certainly looks very nice and the fish look great.
As for plants at the front how about some sort of Sagittaria.

I was considering that.. is it the sabulata that is suitable for a low light tank?

or even some form of small crypt?

good idea too.. i think aquaassentials normally have plenty of them too. any recommendation on which one? one that stays pretty low..?

crypt wendetti stays pretty low does well in lowq light tanks and if you leave it spreads well and creates some nice undergrowth

I love the twisted vals at the back, something a bit different.

the lighting in the last 2 pics makes it look like you changed hood and stand :look:
