OK, as you know i have been buying a few ADA products and was raving not so long since about my diffuser.

Now let me make a clear statement before i begin. Yes, these items do cost a lot of money, but i am certainly not ashamed of saying my honest opinion rather than posting just to justify the price to myself. Yet again i can honestly say AWESUM!! Absolutely fantastic!
Well worth the £80-90

My first thought was the water movement around the tank. The shape allows the water to circulate much much better than any other standard outlet or internal YET with minimum "turbulent" disturbance.
I had a powerhead 400 jewel internal in my rekord 70 and it gave good circulation but boy did it blow everything about. This is smooth as hell, yet you can see the water in all areas of the tank being disturbed (also tell via my CO2 mist for those of you who that makes sense)

OK so so far so good. I have justified the price. BUT here comes the clincher for me.

Us CO2 injection chaps like minimum disturbance on the water surface so that we don`t cause the CO2 to escape. How many of you end up with stagnant water, oily skin, dirty top layer....basically the top water gets very stagnant with us TRYING to keep it still. Now the way the lily pipe works is that the water rushes out of the "lily" shape glass along its surface. This in turn causes a downward current in the surrounding water and this sucks normal tank water into the center of the bulb which also gets displaced. (HAHA, i`ve just wrote that and i`m not surprised if thats not why you get such good circulation, since the lily pipe shape not only throws out the water its filtered but also surrounding tank water..anyway...) If you place it near the top of the tank, i.e lift the lily pipe up a little, you can place it so that this surface water is just gently sucked into the stream and thus in a fine fine delicate way, the top tank water is also disturbed.......lol, it is so hard to explain. I`m sure you could only make complete sense if you see one in action!!

Basically, i think that’s my understanding.

Blue indicates filtered water
Red indicates surrounding tank water that it actually sucks in to the bulb of the lily pipe.

In essence it seems to be circulating more water than is being filtered, since it is also circulating additional tank water.

Anyway, i`ll stop banging on about it. Final words of wisdom. Buy one!!!

Chris

Way to go Chris. Told you they were good eh? I can't wait to (eventually) use one.

As I mentioned before, be careful when maintaining it, they do break.

Thanks george.

I will be careful :D don`t you worry!!!!

BTW, you were the one whole lead me down the path of ADA. I think once you get over the cost issue, buy the things, only then do you really begin to understand their true value.

I am not saying a piece of glass shaped in such as way is worth in physical term £80, but since i can not get anything of same quality elsewhere that does an EQUAL job, then i am prepared to pay the money.

The ADA inlet is a perfect example. I can justify the money in terms of asthetics but for that item, not function! I can see it does nothing more than a standard inlet, therefore at present i would prefer the money to go into something else. This however does not mean i will eventually not get one!

Chris

Of course you are right Chris. The ADA inlet is 100% form over function whereas the lily pipe is a wonderful combination.

I am glad you have chosen the ADA route and even more pleased that your are happy with the results. I've still yet to use any ADA gear but my confidence in their products through other's experiences; Amano, Senke, CAU etc. etc. allowed me the justification to guide fellow enthusiasts like yourself.

Just need the tank now matey. ;)

quick question on ADA diffusers how effective is this one as i'm short of money, so i can't afford the higher price one's, and this one looks good.

:good:

craynerd just out of interst did you say you had this fitted to your Juwel outlet?

and.. ...how big (i.e. cm diameter) is the 'lily'?

CW

thank you sam.

i just need about £50 to get everything together that i want and atm i have £5.75 lol.

Sorry to cause any mis-understanding. No, i have never connected a lily pipe to an internal juwel! The lily pipe is made for a 12mm diameter standard outlet tube, i.e most Eheim external filters. Some are 16mm and so u need to use a converter.

Chris

How delicate is the lily? I would be forever worring i'd break it by forcing it onto the tubing?

Its a glass pipe, drop it and it will smash, force it and it will smash. Treat it with respect and there is no problem, of course accidents can always happen.

Chris

Chris, glad you like it and lives up to it's reputation!
I'll get one for my next tank :hey:

Sam, if you're worried about pushing the tubing onto the pipe, slightly warm the plastic tubing in some hot water (just the end bit that will fit onto the glass pipe) - this would ("should!") make it very easy to just gently slip on
