Acrylic Isn't Good?

The only difference that separates glass from acrylic (apart from cost) is that acrylic is scratched more easily.

I have my boys in 1.5 gal acrylic tanks but I am dividing my glass 5 gal into two parts soon.

I switched to glass after the cats (and me) scratched the acrylic tank to bits. Between the gravel from the inside and the cats' nails on the outside it was a goner. (Seven cats - usually ganging up when playing hide and seek with the betta.)

Not only that, but if you have a stronger filter in them, they can start to warp and there's a risk of them either cracking or exploding. After two years mine was showing the crackling that indicated a failure was on the way, so I panicked and bought a glass tank. Good thing, too, because the bottom had a cracked right through.

I think if you take very good care of an acrylic tank and treat it gently it will last. (I'm rough as heck on things.) Though I know others have had this same problem.

i have the 1 gallon critter keepers and when i clean them out i just pour all the water out and put the tap on full blast so it cleans most of it itself and wipe with a sponge. The sort you use for doing the washing up  it works great and NO scratches so far. Although i also use a couple of glass tanks. I have a 4 gallon, 10 gallon and 30 gallon all glass. Then the 2 critter keepers, one plastic 2 gallon goldfish bowl and 2 4 gallon foodtub cubes!
