USA,
I have no idea how to tell 100 percent if the tanks PH is 7.2 or 7.6 the colors are identical. Why do they make such stupid tests like that!

How can I tell if my PH 7.2 or 7.6?

Take some water to your LFS and get them to put their electronic PH meter on it? My lfs tests water for free...... Or cough up between £20 and £40 for a PH meter of your own, but that's a bit drastic!

yeah, I tested with one of those high range ones, and it came to 7.4

they're probably the "same color" because that's just how the chemicals work :p if you wanted a quick and easy way to immediately distiguish between a small range like that, you'd probably need to get some short-range litmus paper from a chemistry supplies business.

since they sell pH tests to a wide variety but small amount of customers, it simply isn't cost effective to sell many different kinds of tests. plus the more sensitive chemicals that display strongly differentiated colors are probably much more expensive than the staples used in most test kits.
