I have around 5 accei in my tank (50 g) along with some other Africans and angel fish. From what I was told about this species, it is more agressive than red zebras and kenyas. I bought some and discovered that they like to hang around in a group :hyper: not agressive at all!
Is this normal behaviour?

Pseudotropheus sp. "Acei" are fairly unaggressive by mbuna standards. They aren't nearly as aggressive as kenyi or zebras. This still makes them very aggressive relative to most other (non-mbuna) fish though.

How are the angels and the africans getting along? Are your fish adults or juveniles? What other species do you have? What are your tank parameters?

More questions than answers. Sorry! :)

hey can you post some pics in here of them doing that?

is it just your fish or have others seen/heard of this too?

if this is true of my 2nd tank(witch i cant have for like a year or two) that would be my main attraction :)

P Acei are amongst the least aggressive mbuna. At the same time, they are one of the most active mbuna as well - as you mentioned already, they like to be hanging in groups, and they are one of the few mbuna species that don't claim rock territories so they are compatible with many species. Often, they are even used as "dither fish" in mbuna tanks because they like to hang outside of the rock structure al the time, and occupies upper half of the tank more frequently than most others do. When they are around, other fishes seem to feel more comfortable coming out as well.

Just about the only thing you need to watch out for, is that they do grow up to 5 inches and they do like to wonder around alot, so watch out for their swim space...

The angels and other africans are just fine. They are juveniles but I find that they hang around the bottom middle more than the top. The other species I have are red-by-red zebras and nicaraguagasis.

Not sure what my tank perameters are because I have no test kit (I want to buy one though)
Sorry, no pic either because even if I get my cammera fixed my bro will not set of the scanner to transfer to the internet :grr:

Try clicking on my 30g link - the blue fishes are P Acei.

I dunno if you can call them schooling fishes - compare to Harlequin Rasbora and Neons, they don't seem to be in sync when they swim together. They are more like hyper species that gets excited very easily by the presence of human. But when left alone, they are all over the place...
