About Pregnant Fish

Ive heard of ppl doing this. Im not sure whether it was success full or not though. I wouldnt recomend it. But some pll do Have 'em!!! :dunno:

I guess you could try if your really that desperate to see fry, but most likely you'll seriously damage them anyway. When fry are born, they slowly move into postion to safely exit the womb. Squeezing on them may cause them to come out in unnatural ways and they will probably end up deformed, injured, or dead due to the pressure.

I've cut open 2 females when they've died during birth and the fry have been dead already both times. So I'm wondering whether the fry dying inside her is what actually causes her death :dunno:

I would still cut them open straight away and see if there were any alive in there should it happen again

Maybe too many babies in momma's stomach= instant death
If you want to cut them open i think you have to do it when they just died or the fry will already be dead.

Agreed, I've literally whipped the female straight out of the tank when she's died and cut her straight open. Its so sad to see those perfect little bodies so still :-(

Oh no! just went downstairs to find my female platy Tango floating round the tank :-( I've been waiting for her to have her first babies but something must have gone wrong, I thought she was taking too long. I cut her open but she must have started to re-absorb the babies as they were all squishy and  so no saving of babies this time :/

Here was a pic taken of her a few of days ago

Joby, your girl looks a lot like mine. I bought a pregnant hifin sunset variatus yesterday, she had to stay in my car about 5 hours before we got home. At first, I thought she aborted, but to my surprise, she gave birth to some babies last night. This morning, however, she was dead. I feel so guilty for putting her through all the stress when I got her.

dwarf-puffers here is a picture of my female Hillary. She's on her 4th batch of fry I think and it was taken a few days before she had them.

Whoa, she's huge! :) I like it when they get really big, makes it easier to tell when they're gonna give birth.
