 Hello

This is my first time posting on this site ! but i would like to ask your help !

My betta has been shredded. :-( He's in with two female bettas as my local shop suggested and some sand eels. There is also some neons.

He is stuggling to swim but i can't take him out as i don't have another tank to put him in that has finnished cycling.

What can i do to help him ! ! ?? ?? ??

I have since found out that females shouldn't be with males so please please be nice to me. But like i said i don't have a finnished alternative tank at the moment.

Please help

My Betta was chasing my only Baby Guppy so since I didn't have any other tank I improvised and got a two litre plastic water bottle, cut the top of it and punched a bunch of holes in it and put the betta in there in the tank. I will be getting better accomodation soon but it is keeping everyone safe for now. Maybe you could try some thing like that till you can move him.

Hello and welcome to the forum!so sorry to hear whats happened to your betta but i completely understand that you took the advice from the petshop owner, trusting htat it would be right. thats lesson number one : never trust what people in shops tell you!!
Now to help your fish: if you have no spare tank have you thought about placing him in a breeding box or net. it is small but will give him protection from the other fish until his new home is ready. ;)

As for the rest of the fish neons and female bettas will be okay together depnding on the size of the tank. you'll also need more than two females as the females will fight to the death otherwise a group of 4-6 is good. :D

Are you sure you've got sand eels, my understanding is that sand eels are slatwater and predatory, if you've got them i think you might have to give them back to the store!

Hi

maybe they are not eels then :/ hhmm small eel types though and throw sand through their gills like corys do.

My shop close before i finishe work, but i think i might try what the other poster said about a 2lt bottle just to last till the weekend.

Is there anything that i can do for him to help him heal ? ? I really don't want to loose him as he is so lovely.

p.s my females are in seprable and have never seen them fight. should i still get more ? ?
:dunno:

hi
could it be weather loaches you have? these are long and brown and burrow under the gravel/sand.

sorry about your betta geting his fins messed up. i would find a large net for him just now and im sure his fins will heal in time. just look out for any fungus.

They do do what you described but they are whitish/clear with lovely pale marking on them.

Thanks for your help guys, i hope he gets better soon.

there face is completly different to the pic you added for me. it looks more like they have hoover ends instead of a mouth if that makes sense. ?

I have a camera but the usb cable is missing, will see if i can hunt it out.

Thanks

I too was given the advice to have 2 females and a male, i have had them for 11 days and one female was dead this morning and i have had to take the male out as he seems to be injured on one side, its all very upsetting

Not sure about these hoover ends Dare2Dream ;) are their mouths like suckers, that can hold onto the glass? i think a picture would be good :D

Sorry to hear about your fish SuElanor, have you got a new home for the male? If you want more advice on what to do with them you could have a look at some of the pinned thread in teh Bettas forum, they're very useful.

Had a check on my betta this morning and he seems to either have lost scales on the side of his head, nr his gills OR it's some sort of fungus. He's not really eating just picking at it, but not at all himself. He can't swim properly anyway and now he just looks really poorly. :-(

I want to be able to help him ! what is it now?? could this of caused his shreaded tail and fins ? ?

Am so upset i really want to do something any ideas ? ?

so sorry to hear about this. It does sound like he's got some kind of fungus. I got the impression from your first post that you had some other tanks being cycled. if you want to quicken that it might be an idea to use tank water from the used fish tank into the newer ones and use some of the filter sponges in the new one as well. you could out him in straight away then. you might want to get some anti fungus medicine for him as well. Good luck dare to dream! maybe you should hunt out some of the betta experts on this site as they know more then me, try sorrell or juliethegr8

Its a little late for this advice. But this may be useful for the future..
I have a 55 gal tropical community aquarium with two male bettas and 3 female bettas, small handfull of show guppies, some plattys, and few black swardtails along with about 5 different catfish types

i give my betta lots of cover. for example a rock decoration with a cave. the dominate male betta housed in there and comes out for feeding and occasional chassing of the girls.( he has actually courted the females into there and they have laid eggs)
of course all the babys get eatened by the other fish

But give them some places to go throw some plants in there put some cave like dwellings

in the wild they are not strored in jars.

Good luck in the future.
