Just the other day, I bought several mollies. THey were in poor condition at the pet shop, but when I put them into my tank (which has FAR saltier water to suit their needs!!!) they perked up astoundingly fast. However, I have one male sailfin molly who has apparently perked up a little TOO much. Despite the fact that there are four females in the tank for him, he is a little--erm--"over-zealous" shall we say.  I am becoming afraid that he might become a more annoying to the females than is healthy for them. Is there anything I could do to make him back off a little? :S

Providing hiding places for the gals and breaking up the tank with tall plants and ornaments can help with a fish like this. I had one that sounds a lot like yours. I even tried a little competition by adding another male to the mix but the only solution that really worked was to add lots of tall plants that kept his field of view to the "next gal" limited.
