Im changing to sand this weekend. Gonna have a big clearout and get the tank done all nice. I use a UGF at the mo and its done a great job.

Heres my thought. To avoid anaerobic decay, can i keep my UGF, and put a fine cloth on top of it, so the sand doesnt fall thru, and the water till filters thru the sand> Is it possible. Any comments?

Doubt very much it would work
Best switching to external or internal filter.

That doesn't always look that great, and the tank might get dirtier that way because the "STUFF" would get down to the sand and not stay on top of the gravel making it a very parasite/bacterial/ overall, very prone to bad thngs tank

i understand.spice is talkin bout the filter output moving the sand and creating bowls and dips in the sands surface

...or be infested with MTS.
Yeah, that's the route I took with my tanks :look:
Don't mix gravel and sand... it seems like a good idea at first, but the sand always sinks to the bottom eventually, then it's basically like you just have gravel. I speak from experience, hehe.

I was gonna just get a powerhead connected to the ugf, which will have a filter cloth over it and the sand on top, to stop sand gettin sucked thru. I just wanted to know if this would be benificial - gettin water thru the sand.
