Just a note to say thank you to everyone who has given me advice over the last couple of days re y new tank with it's 4 platies [one of which has fin rot]. My amonia levels has dropped to 0, Nitrite is 0.25 and nitrate 0.50 ppm [nitrate is the 'good' onw right? IF not swap those results] which I'm hoping means my tank is beginning to cycle and soon I should be drawing 0 on my nitrites.

We treated for fin rot last night and already there is big improvement in the behaviour of the fish, they are are only clamping thier fins very occasionally now and when I fed them this morning they were very eager to get to it as quickly as possible. [ i am following the advice I received to feed my fish only every other day].

I have my fingers crossed that everything will remain fine [just to be on the safe side I'll do another partial water change tonight] and will treat the fin rot for the next 7 days and buy some aquariam salts at the weekend.

Thanks guys again.

I also meant to say I'll be testing daily to keep an eye on those pesky water levels! I'm determined to make sure my wee fishies are the happiest in Central Scotland!

Good work! And the good news is once the finrot is cleared up the fins will grow back and the fish will be as good as new. :D

Excellent!

Blue is till a little mopey. His fins are clamped a bit from time to time, but the others are barely clampng their fins at all. I'm guessing Blue is unhappy because of the fin rot poor thing, but I've done another partial water change, left the lights off and added my next dose of treatment. Fingers seriously crossed!

When I was siphoning the water oout, the fish were very interested and one of the red platys came right up and swam round the pump, semed really fascinated!

They are such fascinating little guys!

 I know, good luck.
