has anyone ever tried using artificial turf as a tank carpet effect, not that i'm planning it myself i should add, was just another random thought that popped into my head

my lfs sells artificial riccia! I see no point in it at all, its not a planted tank and Riccia is easy to grow. You also get to see you achievements in a planted tank. But it's not a silly idea, as it does get asked.

right, but isn't there a lot of hassle with the riccia, having to tie it down etc and its habit of bubbling up and floating away. like i said i'm not planning anything like this for my tank anyway, its just that i was thinking about how much "astro turf" has improved in appearance over the years. I was thinking maybe of carpeting my foreground with some of those tiny anubias plants (forgot their name for the moment)

The problem i have found with carpeting plants is that they need to be in full light, need good flow, good ferts and most need some kind of C02. Riccia on the other hand...

have a look at this

It is so easy to do, i would recommend using a hair net rather than tying with cotton.

and really easy to do, give it a try. :good:

maybe i will, although right now i'm getting a fairly good result with java moss on a flat slate

Astro turf in a tank? Novel idea :) You could host the worlds first underwater subbuteo match in there? Seriously though, cool idea, i wonder if it would be too sharp and possibly affect any fauna in there but it`s worth a shot :)

Cheers,
