Over the past week or so I have noticed that on my gravel, plants and rocks there is rust colored build up present. I have no clue what it is, what it is from or if its normal or good. If anyone has had the same issue or could help me that would be great.

its probably just some brown algae, it doesnt hurt anything to get rid of it, get some kind of algae eater.

and/or just scrub it off and leave your lights off a bit longer than usual. An hour break mid day with the lights will do wonders.

The problem with getting an algae eater is that it may grow too big for your tank.

I would take wuvmybettas advice and scrub it off with a clean unused sponge or cloth and then have your lights on for less hours per day with a break of a couple of hours in the middle of the day. This will help stop the algae actually being able to grow.
