To all of you who see this beautiful fish, please note that Golden Algae Eaters are close to useless in terms of doing anything to control algae. This is the wrong fish to buy, as my recent research has confirmed. SAEs are apparantly the way to go, even though they may not look as nice. I happened to see GAEs in a planted discus tank, looking oh so attractive. Ugg...don't make decisions based on looks when you have a planted tank and are looking for functuionality/algae control.

Now, my question. If Glosso gets ripped up or somehow ends up floating around the tank, what are the odds that this plant will again find a home in the gravel and flourish? Should I always scoop it up and replant it, or should I let nature take its course??? :good:

GAE is a variant of CAE (if my memory serves) and that means they could well start eating other fishes eyeballs and mucus coats as they get older rather than algae.

I would check it out here:

You may want to get rid of it before you lose fish as well as plants.

Interesting....I haven't noticed any agression, but he is young. The again, my LFS keeps them (a pair of large GEAs) is a planted discus tank. If that were the case, I would think that would be one of the last species to by kept in that tank.

replant it, you will win the battle eventually it can be a stressfull time lol. ^^^^^^^^^^

Hey, as long as I know it's normal, no problems here. I'll keep replanting them until it looks right. The are growing rather tall right now, and I see there extensions (with new plants) coming out but the nez roots are nowhere near the gravel. I was just thinking of pushing the new roots down into the gravel hoping it will continue to spread.

An excerpt from TFFs CAE profile (This comment is about the 'gold sucking loach' as many UK LFS call them:

We were sold these as dwarf loaches.....we had 5 but since they don't appear to be picky who they eat, only the biggest two are left.

Along with 3 small CAE's, we believe them to be responsible for the strange disappearance of 1 albino red finned shark (seen chasing it shortly before it vanished), 4 neon tetras, 1 red platy, 1 small gourami, several cory-cats and a partridge in a pear tree.

They are in isolation now. Chinese Face Huggers.
