I am looking for a fish that can be kept alone to go in my planned 29 gal. tank of 10 peal danios and 6 albino cory cats. I am thinking of maybe a gourami, like a pearl. My tap pH is about 7.5, and my water is moderately hard. Do you have any suggestions?

A BIG angel fish ?

Come to think of it - make that a small one ,you're pretty much fully stocked!

Thanks for the suggestion. I might just leave my tank as-is. Could I add harlequin rasboras or glowlight tetras?

Tetra's would be a fairly safe bet research the fish on sites such as wikipedia they have the size indicators and tank size a fish will be okay in - remember 1 inch of adult sized fish per galllon of water in your tank.

I'd go with the gourami. the 1 inch per gallon rule is really a general guideline to help prevent you from overstocking initially. check your nitrates before each water change. If they are below 40 consitently then you should be ok adding another fish. That only considers bioload however. You also need to consider distribution (ratio between top middle and bottome dwellers) and temperament (how much space do your fish need to feel comfortable and passive) if you can maintain a good distribution you have low nitrates (nitrites and ammonia too ofcourse) and you have no aggression problems then you should be ok to add a few more small fish or one reasonably sized centerpiece fish.

Personally if your tank checks out then I would add an angel or a gourami (dwarf or three spot are my favorites) keep a close eye on your water stats and the aggression in your tank if needed up your water change regime.

Hi reg! I agree with Torrean about the angel fish or dwarf or three spot gourami. One of these fish would probably be a nice addition. You mentioned possibly adding a Pearl Gourami. I'm also interested in these fish & have done a lot of research on them lately. Apparently, Pearl Gouramis enjoy each others company, and you may not have enough room to get 1 male and 2-3 females. Also, the Pearls do not seem to like really active tank mates. I don't know what your danios are like, but some danios tend to be a bit hyper for Pearls (I think). The angel fish, dwarf, and three spot all do well on their own. And, they all come in beautiful colors. :)

Thank you for the advice. I just got my fish- 8 pearl danios and 6 albino cories, and think I'll stick with that
