Hey all,
Im obviously a beginner as you are about to see with my question. I have a 10 gallon with 2 small halfbeaks, 1 yoyo loach, 1 bronze cory (soon to be 3) and an african dwarf frog. I know some people may think im crazy but i actually ASKED for snails at my lfs, i know my loach will eat some but my question will he just eat them all before i ever get to see any on the sides or before any cleaning is done? Note- i am not getting these to clean my tank, i do weekly sometimes bi weekly water changes of 10 to 25 percent, i have just heard they help and i like the way they look. anyway i guess any knowledge will be helpful as i actually want to have some snails and my tank and worry my loach will wipe them out. Thanks a lot in advance!

yoyo loaches would eat the snails

you can always drop a few in there, i'm sure some will make it and lay eggs.

Yup, YoYo loaches are a boita loach and as such, will eat snails. Pop some in and see how quickly they vanish! Would be very difficult to keep snails in a small tank like that with boita loaches.

I've dropped a dozen snails (of good size for pond/ramshorn snails) in the tank before with a yoyo as a nice live food for him. They didn't last a week although it looks like a few eggs did make it to the filter where 2 small ones survived for awhile.

I initially got the yoyo since I was overrun with pond snails (easily 100 in the tank). He cleaned them out in well under 2 weeks to the point you couldn't find more than a few pinhead sized ones in the gravel. They flip them over and suck them out.

Since then, I've made a loach tank and gave him lots of friends. They're much more interesting in groups, 3-4 being absolute minimum for them to feel comfortable. He'll also outgrow a 10 gal.

yea thanks for your input and advice. If nothing else i just gave him a nice treat for a week or two. FYI, i am aware he will outgrow his tank, i also have a 55 gallon being cycled right now so dont lose sleep over my yoyo
