ok i recently have finsh my tank....its very nice and my fish are all happy in it, heres the stocking,

1x male betta
2x male guppy
2x albino catfish things (sorry im always forgetting there names!)
1x dawf plec guy (dont know his real name, he's only and inch lol)
1x male platy
1x ballon molly

ok so to the problem, my betta as taken the filter and this rock like thing as his new home in the tank....you would think he would chase anyone of who gos near right? well no he doesnt...unless my platy gos near then he gos made and chase's the platy? ive already had to remove my other platy as i came home and caught my betta flaring at him and the poor platy had riped fins! he is now in a breader trap in my guppy fru tank as i have no where else for him :( still this leaves the other platy, im unsure what to do about it, my betta doesnt flare at him....and doesnt really chase him much unless the platy go's near his filter, when feeding the platy is fine and cloud (betta) wont touch him, yet if say either of the guppys go enar the filter cloud does nothing?

this must sound odd as i hear alot about bettas beating up guppys but mine doesnt mind them in the slightest.....he just hates platys for some odd reason

should i remove the other platy? he seems fine eats well but does get chased...none of his tail is ripped like the other platy so im not to worried yet but some advice would be good

and before anyone suggest's, im not moving cloud out unless he becomes a problem and beats everyone up thanks!

You say you don't want to remove your betta, but do you really prefer seeing your other fish suffer rather than moving him to a different home? :( He doesn't sound very tolerant of other fish, and the male guppies with their bright tails will, at some point, become targets for his aggression.

its always risk putting male bettas in comunity tanks some will live fine with anythink thers like to live on there own. it is a bit wierd he dosnt like the plaatys i would of thought it would have been the guppys. i think it would be best it you ger red of the betta or but him a little 3-5g tank with a smalll filter or sponge fillter and heater. if the tank is bigger thank 10 you could have a group of female bettas.

but i really like him being in there :( he likes everyone else and will swim with them, but not the platy do you really think he will change over time? i mean hes about 6 months old and i got him when he was around 3 months i belive (a rescue betta) and i put him with the 1 guppy at this time and he was fine, this platy was like the first time he flared aswell, i got him to flare at a mirror once or twice in any other case he is a very calm! i do have a 25litre tank but it is a temp home to some baby cichlids, would he be ok with these? or is that not safe?? thanks!

I know you don't want to hear it but it would be very unfair for you to leave him in there. Bettas are solitary creatures by nature, get him a 3-5g of his own with filter and heater he'll be happier and so will your other fish. Don't put him in with the baby cichlids (get them in a bigger tank by the way not even baby cichlids can go in a 20litre they are high waste producers and need space even as fry) you need to move him for the best.

It's not about what you want, it's about making sure the creatures you care for are happy and healthy, it would be cruel to leave him in there just cos you like him in there.

Do the right thing eh. :good:

:( ye i thought i would have to, i have to wait for my large tank for the cichlids then cloud can go in the 25litre, i do want wants best for him and my other fish so he will have to get his own tank....maybe 1 tank mate??

Why not put the betta in the 20liter tank? 4 gallons is a reasonably good size maybe have a few shrimp in there but not much else.

What cichlids do you have in there and how many? Are they actual babies like fry or are they an inch or two?

I agree that the betta should be moved. Those male guppy tails are not a good thing to have around a betta.

if it juat has a problem with the platy you can try keeping him and getting red of the platy.

well the guppys swim with him this is what i do not understand. the platys have no fancy colours yet he chases them of?? i have guppy fry in the 32 litre and 2 inch long roughly cichlids in the 25 litre, of course there is the rest in the main 60 litre tank, i have the big 90litre for the cichlids and the idea is this....

raise the guppy fry and keep so many in the main tank as there show guppy fry, sell the rest
move cloud (BETTA) to the 25litre when the 90litre is cycled fully (about half way there now)
keep the 32litre as a breading tank/med tank

does this seem a good idea?? would cloud eat the guppy fry as i could move most of the adults to the main tank and keep all the young ones with the betta for the time beaing, would that be a better idea?? thanks!

the betta would eat the fry. i think you ither need to get red of the betta or platy or get a 5g tank to but the male betta in.
