im going to try some giant valis in my tank, even thoi the tank is 2 foot deep i know from reading that the plant can grow much taller than that. when the leaves reach the tank surface and spread across the water how do i prune? do i just trim the leaves below the surface or do i need to remove at the base of the plant? also i will be using root tabs do i put these in whole or crush them up?

Whenever I feel the need to trim mine, I just cut them at the top. I've read that this can damage them, but I've never noticed any difference in growth after trimming. I trim mine at an angle of around 45 degrees. I think they look a bit strange if you trim them 'straight'. IMO they look fab if you let them grow right along the top of the tank.

I do the same exct thing with mine, and I haven't had a problem. The growth always comes back, well back :good:
