Had 6 platies happy as merry 2 week ago,
Had trouble with my water last week wedesday
Found a neon had died , hide itself under a plant did not see him
any water test was nitrites O.5 and ammonian similar
did huge water change and complete clean , gravel plants
put fish back in

everybody seemed a lot happy apart from 2 of my platies

1st rainbow seemed to hug the bottom just lying still
other was always lying on top of the filter
the rest of the platies rounded and started harrasing the 1st
finally got better of him last night found him a bit dead wen got in from work
now thw other is just lying up against a plant at the bottom of the tank

whats there problem,

Did the bad water do them real bad harm

all other fish in tank seem quite happy neons are back to shoaling other 4 platies seem happy enough darting round the tank

so what going on in there??

any help or comments greatefull
cheers Ginga

Hi
Check all water levels.
Did you treat the water going back in.

When you say huge water change how much. Sometimes the worst thing you can do is a huge change. Remeber the aclimatise to the water their in so if you do suddenly change the water and chuck them back in it will be a shock to their system.

Some fish will be more effected than others.

I would say check levels.
Look for dicease
keep lights on a little less to allow them to rest.

with any luck they'll perk back up

Oh and never do a full clean of everything. always leave some waste in there for the filter to break down or your filter bacteria will reduce.

Great thanks guys

Refilled 3/4 of tank with clean warm declorinated water

placed all plants and decs back in

put filter back in

placed fish in largish clear back with old water
topped up tank with old water
spent next 1hour slowly adding more of new water to bag every sorta 15 mins

let fish swim free

check water stats
straight after good

So thats what happened
yesterday 1st platy died now 2nd look poorly to sitting or laying against plant at bottom corner of tank

so did i do correct thing???????????????????????

Seriously sounds like a shock to their system.
I expect high nitrates due to some of your bateria dieing in the process.

Def the large water change has not helped.

I wouldn't remove or add anymore water. If you have a bottle add a healthy does of friendly bacteria (not yakult...)

Make sure to test PH morning and night as it will change throughout the day but levels are fine.

Nitrate is high but should go down with bacteria you add.

And if you can buy some maybe some medication against stress. Might calm them down.

Unless anyone else can suggest I think you just need to slowly nerture them back so as before lights to a min.
