A Question About Hang On Filters?

Just purchased my 35 gallon tank and was getting a hang on filter for it but have realized something, There is glass that sticks out from the sides to sit the lid on and if I get a Hang on filter I don't know if it will reach over these pieces of glass. My question is if I get one will it reach over the glass? I tried the small one out of my 5 gallon on the side and it does not reach over the glass.

I think I know what your talking about but maybe you should take a pic and post it so we know what your describing

Its just like a ledge around the inside of the tank about 1 1/2 inches for the lid to sit on. I won't be able to get a pic for a while so I hope people understand what im talking about.
