I'd been having a really hard time keeping my plants alive  so I decided to get some fake ones. So I added the new fake plants and moved everything around. One of the fake plants was a cambodia plant and I knew the name looked familiar  . So about 2 seconds after I added the fake cambodia two of my cherry barbs start mating like nonstop; really going at it. So I guess a little too late I realize, "Isn't cambodia used to mate fish" :X ?? So everytime the girl cherry barb wonders away the boy chases her back to their corner and chases away any body that gets near her :grr: . Especially my other male that I got the plants for so he could have a place to hide, and he hardly eats anything. I feel sorry for him :( . So anyway heres my question.

How long after mating will the female lay eggs and how long will it take for the eggs to hatch? Just because they mate does that mean she will definetly lay eggs ???? ? How likely is it for the babies to live with a total of five adult cherry barbs in the tank? Any tips as far as the mating thing. This is the first time i've seen them do this and these will be my first little babies  (if they survive) so what should I do?

Im not a expert but know a little bit. I dont think the eggs will survive long with cherry barbs in the tank. Eggs hatching time various from fish species and also depends on the temperature the eggs are kept at. How old roughly do you think that barbs are? I ask this because if they are young your chances or hatching the eggs mite be small due to the eggs not being fertilized by the male. Hope that answers some of your questions :S
