Hi all.

I have a question about the terms used to describe spotty coloration in Mollies.

I have a female 'balloon' (she is actually a mix reg/balloon) Molly who is 'dalmation' acording the the supplier. She is pretty much an equal mix of black and white, maybe a little more black, the spots are large, not speckly.

I also have a male sailfin who was sold to me as a 'marble'. He is predominantly black, with silver showing through around his fins, his eyes, gills etc. He also has black and transparent fins like my dalmation female.

The female had babies, with the male.

The four I was able to grab are now 3 wks and are so cute! This is what I ended up with:

2x 'speckled' dalmation. They are very salt/pepper. I assume they will darken as they get older. one has a 'wagtail'.

1x completely silver with ONE black spot on the tip of his nose!

1x silver with beautiful freckles. Not all over, and not too many (maybe 8?), they are fair size. I assume he is a silver 'speckled'?

Can you pls help me with terminology on the colorations. I am not sure exactly what the differences between freckled specked, spotted, dalmation and marble are, or all the same! lol.

The silver fry will turn dalmation or marbelled as they mature don't worry this is quite common and its not unusual for somone to buy a young silver molly and then the molly turns dalmation or marbelled as it matures- your silver fry will start to get more spots on them when they get to about 6months old :) .

Thanks...I figured that :)
so again, if anyone can answer me on the terms, if there is a difference among speckled, spotted, dalmation and marble - please what are they?
