i ahve a pregnant platy but im not sure exatly when she will have it(like any other birth) but i have fish about 1 month old in the breeding box still growing, my question is will she eat the newborn montholds? or must i move them for a little while...

As long as the baby fish is big enough not to fit in a fish mouth it will be ok, they don't tend to touch them after a while anyway.

im making a makeshift breedingbox for them until shes done dropping them... then ill put them all back in the original box...

shes having her contracetions and labored breathining, ive moved the little ones to a temporary location, shes running back and fourth in the box scared yet ready to drop... or im SO wrong and shes just very fat i saw a small gravis spot, thats when she gained weight and i noticed the darkened patch in her woumbish area

Take her out of the box thing if she stressed she could die.
You will have to catch the fry and put them in the box.
Good luck.

wilder this has worked before, it takes her a few minutes to calm down from the sudden room change, then she lays the babies within 2 days, she has ALOT of babies i can tell so this is going to be a bit stressful on her part but i will make sure she gets the best she can get(bloodworms, calmness,ect...)

Ok, good luck.

thanks, i hope there mickeymouse play/blackwags lol thats all the males in the tank are.... otherwise im afraid shes still holding her sperm(grr) im tired of red blacktail babies

I know what you mean all i had was red wagtails, abit boring after a while.

yeah i cant wait for her to finish letting loose her bioload...(lol) and start droppin babies...im aiming for 40 fry..... ive never seen her this big before either and last time she dropped 24(more counting the ones she could have eaten)

she laid babies today,,,, :hyper: im overwhelmed in babies now... when do babies get their color??? my forst month ones still havent got their color(fully) their tails have matured a bit and thats all...she laid a few aggs, one was alive and i guess hatched because i saw it breathing, and it was pretty advanced and large, and it disapreaed, other embryos had eyes but fell through the cracks of the vent of the breeding box and im thinking they were a delicious snack for the platies circling the box looking for a treat
