I bought 2 platy's about 6 weeks ago....they are a lovely colour...bluey with black and orange fins...anyway bought 2 females to go in my tank with some other female mollies and platys I have....and also 3 male guppies....anyway I noticed straight away that one was getting picked on by one particular male guppy......I left it a couple of days but it would not leave her alone...so I moved her into a tank with 4 sterbai cory's and a betta....who are all fine together...noticed last night after 4 weeks of being in the tank...the betta started picking on her...I have a tank upstairs with 1 platy....and a gourami who I was treating with melafix due to a wound he had....and with her looking like she had lost a couple of scales, she had a smooth patch just above her dorsal fin...I decided to try her in there (running outta tanks to put her in..lol)...anyway was apparent straight away it was not going to work...the gourami is from my community tank and I am waiting for him to heal before moving him back to his original home....right I thought...bloody hell what do I do now...she was looking totally miserable..and I bet fed up with being moved about....the only option I had left is a 40 litre fry tank that is currently housing about 10 platy fry....I decided to risk putting her in there as I knew the fry would not pick on her....but knew she may try to eat them....even though they are not newborn fry...anyway risked it...she has been totally fine in there, and has perked up no end at all....swimming about more than I have ever seen her do.....she has chased the fry a little, but not eaten any at all....they are obviously more wary of her....!
My question is....the fry tank is obviously a temporary home.....is there any chance I may beable to try her back in the original tank...say in a few weeks....no other fish seem to like her at all...yet the other platy I bought with her who is female and exactly the same, no fish bothers with her...I feel so sorry for her...she is a beaut of a fish....and after close inspection..the wound I saw must have healed whilse she was in with the betta and cory. (thought that might be why she was being picked on if she was injured)
Poor little fish...!
Any advice?
Ta in advance
