So I've been looking for some Rabbit Snails to go in my 20g long and the cheapest I'd seen online was £5.49 each (then £12 delivery) then someone I know mentioned they'd seen them in P@H so I took a drive and yes they had them listed there 2 for £7.

Brilliant! I thought.

I asked one of the guys there and he said yes they do get them in but they had a problem with their last batch so currently don't have them. Naturally I asked what the problem was............

"someone" had put all the new Rabbit Snails in their Assassin Snail tank and nobody had picked up on it until they realised they had a lot of empty shells.

It just goes to show they either have very few staff who know what they are doing, or they have too few staff so the wrong person is doing the wrong job.

Poor Snails

it also goes to show that assassins are not afraid to take on a snail bigger than them

I kinda found this funny.

But yes, a lot of LFS do sell rabbit snails, i never have had any of these Rabbit snails but i do have assassin snails and i like these guys, so am rooting for the assassins

Sorry :x

my lfs has some rabbit snails in at the moment ... now normally I have a passion for snails but not this type ... they just look freaky to me!

I suppose it is kinda funny really and it serves the staff right for not knowing. I have only seen them in P@H, none of the other stores near me (and I have at least 5 non-chain) stock them which is a shame.

That's why I like them, they're unusual :)

yeah, this is why I don't understand why I don't like them ... normally I love anything unusual lol

When assassin snails first came into shops, I went into one shop to buy a nerite and found these unusual yellow and black stripey snails in the same tank, all labelled as algae eating snails. I thought I recognised them from photos, and when I got home, google proved me right - they were assassins. I phoned the shop, they had no idea what assassins were. When I told them, they said they go and separate them straight away.
I wonder how many people bought them and wondered why they didn't make much impact in their algae. Or why their other snails were disappearing.

oh lord.  kind of funny and also kind of sad.

I'm sure many fish stores have made this mistake as every time I go into one and ask about assassins, they look at me like I have 5 eyes

Well, what i think may happen is there are two species of snails that are black and yellow.

Assassin Snails and Horned Nerite Snail.

Am sure you can work out how its easy to confuse LFS staff when they ask someone the colour of horned nerites, then that is what happens

I love my little horned nerites, my toddler thinks they're bumble bees :D

My gf loves them too and thinks the exact same thing

A few years ago, my wife and I were watching the Planet Earth series and we realized something very interesting.   As she was watching a wolf chase down a rabbit, she was rooting for the rabbit - while I was rooting for the wolf.  Explained a lot about our relationship.
