Hi all

I brought a very small piece of driftwood today to put into my fry "tank", and was just wondering what would be the safest way to prepare it. As stated the fry are only 1 week old, i have it soaking in a bucket at the moment, if it still leaks tannins would this be safe for the fry. Should i boil it, if so for how long? It is only about 20cm long and 5 cm wide.

I'm guessing the tannins would not harm the fry, but being my first lot of fry (bristlenose) i just want to make sure first.

Cheers

The tannis that seeps out of the wood is harmless to fish. You should boil it a number of times and keep soaking it until it no longer floats. It will probably take a week or so (depending on its size) before it sinks and stops leeching tannis.
