So, I went to Petsmart to look at plants today, and of course, glanced over at the betta display. OH MY GOSH they had gorgeous bettas! They actually had doubletail halfmoons, and dragonscales! So, of course, I was unable to resist, but my mom limited me to getting only one... I brought home a young grey and red Halfmoon male. His name is now Steel.

I moved Severus to his new 5 gal tank (which he LOVES!) and put Steel in the old heated 2.5 gal tank. It's now planted with water wisteria (5 plants came in 1 package- more than I could use in the 5 gallon!) and a floating piece of hornwort. I also moved the moss ball to the small aquarium, it just didn't fit in the big one's decor. =/

So, the promised pictures!

A not-so-good one of Steel. He's really little- maybe a little less than an inch, not including tail?

Steel's tank, with the plants- heater was removed a few days ago because I was worried it was getting too hot (water was warm to the touch). I'll put it back during the next water change now that I have a thermometer and can keep a better eye on the temp.

And finally, Severus' finished new tank! So far he's loving it- hasn't been bothering the shrimp, just sorta swimming after them trying to figure out what they are. =p I put the plastic bottle baffle on the filter, and he hasn't been overly bothered by the flow. It looks a lot better than the jury-rigged washcloth!

Love the tanks! I got a really teeny male VT at Petsmart last summer and now he's huge. He totally changed color, too! It'll be interesting to see how Steel turns out :)

Lovely fish, you don't find many fish like that in stores in the UK unless you go to breeders or stores who import them. I like the wood in the second tank :good:

Thanks for the compliments! Steel is settling in well. He's so cute- we got him one of the little lantern ornaments from petsmart, and he likes to sit in the top hole facing backwards with his tail hanging out, and it looks like he's a little candle flame! (Yes, my parents think I'm crazy for noticing that...)

In other news, Severus built his very first bubblenest! I guess that means he loves his new tank- he's never built one in the entire almost-a-year I've had him.

Oh, and... ahem... I have yet another new betta. Well, my mother mentioned she wanted a bowl on the counter, and when I got Steel there was another gorgeous betta I had my eye on, so I went with it- luckily, he was still there! He's a white doubletail HM, but he was mislabeled as a regular HM so he was half the price! :good: He doesn't have a name yet, and is living in the largest bowl I could find (1.75 gal) with a live Anubias plant and a little bridge to hide under. His fins are curled at the ends, which I've heard can be from living in dirty water (which his cup water was...), so I've been doing 50% water changes daily since I got him. Hopefully they'll return to normal, but if not he'll just be my little quirky fish! (Oh, and I've been researching fin rot, but what my new betta has doesn't look like it to me. I'm keeping a close eye on his fins to make sure they're not shrinking, and since clean water is one of the main treatments for fin rot anyway, I think he'll be fine. =p)

I finally got pictures of the new fellow- he's been affectionately nicknamed "Shy Guy" by me, but my parents have decided to call him Sherlock. He actually built a bubblenest last night! I'm shocked- Severus only built his first one recently, after I moved him to his 5 gallon!

It's really interesting to me, since this is the first time I've had more than one betta at once, to note all the different personalities. Shy Guy is called that for a reason- he's always hiding under his bridge or lurking near his plant. It's taken a little while for him to settle in enough to eat. That's odd for me- Steel ate a pellet out of my hand the first day I brought him home! Steel and Severus are both more outgoing, and Severus is a lot more active than Steel is.

Sorry for me rambling and obsessing about my fish. My dad thinks I'm crazy for insisting that my bettas have personalities.
