In the pet shop down the road they have very small plastic tanks for about £16. I was wondering about getting one for my platy fry. If I were to get them and move the fry over, would I need to add:

1. substrate
2. filter
3. heater?

It would only be until the fry were big enough to be rehomed or to go back in the community tank.

And after that, if I put a small heater in, could I keep a male betta in the small plastic tank?

Thanks.

Depends on exactly how small is small.

Heater: Depends again how big the tank is. If you can fit a small heater in then it is a good idea. If not a heat mat under the tank would help.

Filter: Fry can probably do without one if you do water changes. You could make a small sponge filter for it though and if you have a betta in there later I would recommend this (there is a pinned topic in the DIY section on how to quickly build a box filter).

Substrate: For fry I wouldnt use any. For a betta I would. You might want to use one of the "moss balls" this will act as a filter for the fry and also helps to provide micro orginisims that they can feed on.

If the tank is less then 1g (or 2g ideally) I wouldnt put a betta in there.
