I have had aquariums for more years than I like to admit and this is a first for me. It seems my black angelfish (my avatar) has hole in the head disease  . I've been sick lately and admit that my tank maintence has suffered a little, but I didn't think I let things slide enough to cause damage to my fish. 46 gallon aquarium, sand substrate, live plants and driftwood. 1 Black Angelfish, 1 Platnium Angelfish, and a bristlenose Pleco. Ph 7.0, Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, Nitrate 40. Temp 76F. Until the past two months, I do 50% pwc every week. Lately, 20% weekly or 75% every 10 days, depending on how I feel. After my water change, I noticed an area behind my angel's eye that looked a little different. After a closer inspection, I noticed 3 pinholes surrounded by what looks like extra slime coat. He is still acting normal with one exception, they haven't spawned lately (they usually spawn every few weeks). I did some research this morning and could use a little advice. I read that medications may not help. I also read that daily water changes, salt and a raise in temp is a treatment. Before I start treating I would like to know what you advise as a treatment. Thanks in advance for your help

Hole In The Head (HITH): This is a common disease among larger Cichlids such as Severums and especially...Oscars. It appears as small holes on the face and around the eyes, that may have a white material growing inside them.

SymptomsIt appears as small holes on the face and around the eyes, that may have a white material growing inside them. Loss of appetite and whitish feces are another indication that may appear before the development of the holes.

Treatmeant A range of medication including Aquarium Pharmaceuticals-General Cure, Aquatronics- Hex-a-Mit, Aquatronics- Hex-A-Vital (especially for Discus, Angelfish and Oscars)

Thanks FishyFriend2. I use salt and temp for ich, but never thought of using it for HITH. I don't want to mess around and lose my prized angel.I'll be getting the meds tomarrow. Again, thanks.
