I would like some suggestions on a bit larger fish to go with my 6 serpae and 10 glo-light tetras in my 30gal tank?

Also, why aren't my glo-light tetras schooling? They always seem to be off swimming on their own. Do I need an odd number of them?

schooling is a defensive mechanism and will only bee seen when the fish feel threatened.
adding a larger boisterous fish should make them school.
try some malabar danios Devario malabaricus or danio hikari
either fish will be safe with your current stock.
you could also try a gourami or two.

like the person before me said, larger danios (like giant danios) and gouramis (blue gouramis, pearl gouramis) would be a nice, and generally peaceful fish, but if you're like me, and looking for something with a bit more personality, try a convict cichlid, but you could only get the one, since they do produce their share of waste
I have a convict in with my serpaes, rosy and black neon tetras, and she's doing fine, so are all of the other fish

I'd be careful with angelfish or gouramis, since serpae tetras can nip fish like them.

Personally, I'm a big fan of keyhole cichlids. Comparable size to convicts, but less likely to try making a snack of your glolights. They should be robust enough to stand up to nipping, and they're actually really cool to watch when something does try to bother them, as they can change their color patterns quickly to reflect their mood. Mine shift colors almost constantly as they move through the tank and encounter different fish.
