Hello everybody. I have a huge problem that I need your advice on. As you know I'm cycling a 10 gallon tank with 2 mystery snails. It has been two weeks and my ammonia is only at 1.0ppm. I think this is because my snails are in their shells all the time. They are never out. I think it is because my ammonia levels. That is why I'm faced with this question. If the snails are in their shells how am I going to generate ammonia? Also, I am faced with another huge question. Should I return them? The reason I would like to return them is so I can do a fish-less cycle. Those are faster and safer for everybody. Also you can add a huge bio-load when its done. What do you guys think? Should I return my two mystery snails that I had since October, or should I keep them in the tank and have them in their shells all the time without helping the cycle at all. Also the is a risk of them dieing if they stay in the tank. It would be all for nothing. The LFS that I got them from (AKA Petsmart) takes really good care of their snails. I would not worry at all if I returned them because they would have a better life there than with me. At Petsmart they have nice thick colorful shells with lots of space. I think that I should return them and do a fish-less cycle instead. What would you do? Thanks for anybody who actually read this whole thing, I really appreciate it.

get an ice cream tub, fill it up with water, but just enough to cover them, punch holes in the top to provide air, chuck them in there and do a fishless cycle on the main tank.

Feed them very little and do daily water changes on the ice cream tub. simples.

good idea :D. I have a spare 1.5 gallon tank. Would that suffice? Thanks for your quick reply :D.
