I have yet to add any fish to my 180 litre Tanganyikan tank, I am waiting for my Bio-Spira to arrive.

So, I was getting some empty snail shells from my local fish shop for when my new shellies arrive, which the assistant kindly gave me for free. I did a bit more shopping and drove the 15 minutes home. I put the plants I had bought in my tank, and went to put the shells in.

You can probably guess, but there was a little "multi" lying in the bottom of the bag, looking rather ill.....(there was no water in the bag). Obviously the assistant had failed to check the shells properly. He was bent round, and looked rough but his gills were still moving slightly.

Immediately I put him in my tank, which is up to temprature and has been standing for a couple of weeks. He was still alive but his body was bent and he was floating on his side alot. It didn't look good.

I left him overnight expecting to find him dead in the morning, but amazingly he was fine! He had been out of water for over 20 minutes! He has been in my tank for a week now and is very healthy, he is sleeping in his shell and eating and has been christened 'lucky' bt the missus (I didn't choose the name!)

Anyway, he has now made up my choice about about which shellies to get, I will adding a group of multis soon.

Everybody say arghhhh :)

Nice story and that is 1 tough little fish, the name certainly fits! :D

Thats great.. My friend has a story about that well his dad has an oscar and i asked him about the oscar and he told me that his friend went and bought the fish and after it started eating everything else in the tank he went back to the pet store and asked for the money back.. They wouldnt give him his money back or take the fish back.. So he just left the fish outside.. It is my understanding that he did not like the fish for eating his own and he just left the fish there threw it at the store so now there is a fish laying on the sidewalk with no water.. About 45 min later he walked past the store again and the fish was still there on the sidewalk alive just gasping for air.. He grabbed the fish and brought him home and his father fell in love with the fish and has taken care of him since.. He is now a healthy full grown fish.. Its not a very good story but he was a young teenage boy and really didnt care much about the fish until after realizing how badly the fish didnt want to die.

 SPINS AROUND IN A FIT OF ANGER

why on earth kids are allowed to just buy any ole fish they think is "super cool, neat looking, gotta have it this minute" with out doing any type of research first
pisses me OFF!!!!!! :hyper:
I'm glad the oscar is fine now

 done ranting

Yeah its my girlfriends cousin.. Her uncle adopted it and now lives a good life alone.. But better then frying in the sun.. What pissed me off was while it was a dick move by her cousin the pet store left it there to die? Refused to take it back?? WHY??

As a reply to the original message, I think Brevis are the better of the species and will make a good lively colony. Maybe you could mix a few of the smaller Julies in there too, maybe transcriptus. Obviously the poor multi would have to make room for the brevis
