Where to begin.... well for the past 3 years I have been keeping tropical fish, and as we all know its a blast! Im sure you'd then be able to understand my yearning for a larger tank than the 20 gallon tall and 10 gallon tank i have had for the past 3 years....well the tides have turned, and i am now allowed to go purchase a 75 gallon tank with stand that i found on Craigslist for only 100$ flat! :drool: Granted my parents are only allowing me to have my 75 and one other tank going, but its worth the sacrifice as Ive always had an obsession with archer fish and their interesting behaviors! My plan is a 5/6 filled tank with approximately 5-6 Toxotes microlepis archer fish, and of course plant it with my new favorite plant (jungle val), and other hardy hard water and low light plants! I'm so thrilled that im going to start a tank build/diary thread here so i can get suggestions and help! SO EXCITED FOR MY FIRST LARGE AQUARIUM! :hyper:

Thanks to both of you! As i said before im new to larger systems so im wondering if there's an affordable canister filter that will work well for a 75 gallon tank.

oh and just as an overall statement, im trying to make this tank on a low budget, as i have saved up 300$ for what was initially going to be a 20 tall nano salt water tank..lol so with the purchase of the tank and stand it brings me down to 200$, which all i need left is a nice canister filter (since im lowering my tank water levels to observe the archer's squirt gun HOB filters are kinda out of the question..) a nice heater that will do justice, of course a substrate (im thinking sand?) and the cost for driftwood and plants..which can continually be added over time i suppose.

Think i can do this? Equipment ideas welcome! :hey:

Congrats! Thats a good size tank. Good luck, Archer Fish are nice fish :good: Fluval FX5 is a great canister but pricey. Im running an FX5 and Rena XP3 theyre both do their job well.

Everytime i see that betta Hunter :drool: Hes amazing!

Thnx mate. Im glad he's enjoying his own tank, I'll let you babysit him, but I live in Canada :lol:

@Shovelman
The FX5 is pricey but I think its worth every penny. Maybe u can find a second hand one.

Glad to hear hes doing well, that wouldn't work mate you would come back to an empty tank :lol: :fun:

@shovelman. I agree the FX5 are amazing such a strong well built filtration system well worth the price :good:

as I was reading I was thinking fx5. If you can find a second hand one then it would be worth it, although you may find you want an additional filter.

This will make a great journal. Good job on the find! :good:

Well thanks again everyone...and it just so happens someone was selling their fx5 on Craigslist for 90$ ..... and all i can say is that right now i <3 Craigslist....lol

Any recommendations on a reliable heater that's easy to adjust the heat on the device?

ok scratch that, its a Fluval 405, still worth it though? for 90$?
