Since sunlight is obviously of the perfect spectrum to grow plants I thought I'd try to grow them on my window ledge.

First I needed a container, I decided on a 2 litre coke bottle. I cut off the top and put some gravel and water in it:

Then I tied a cut off of rhizome from one of my java ferns to a tiny bit of mopani (got lots of them - smashed a big bit to bits to get them).

Next I planted one of my smalled Vallisneria spiralis in the gravel and took some cut offs from some stem plants I have.

I stocked it (omg maybe overstocked!!??!?/?) with some daphnia:

Then it was done :3

It's a nice little window ornament. I recommend if you have some spare plants you give it a shot. The chances are they will grow fairly quick if you occasionally dose some ferts (of course a TINY amount). It looks really nice too :)
It's pretty much free, or at least, the cost is negligible.

If anyone decides to do this please post pictures :D

Oh yeah and I'm thinking of adding pressurised CO2 to it what do you think? :p

wow that looks really cool
 dd you say there were fishin there?
Nope, I wouldn't keep any fish in an unfiltered tank. The only maintenance to this is adding fish food for phosphates, dead leaves from my main tank for nitrates which will eventually be formed by beneficial bacteria around the roots in the gravel, adding a drop of ferts every few weeks and replenishing water which has evaporated.

One thing - DON'T PUT YOUR HAND IN IT WHEN ITS GOT WATER IN IT. THE VOLUME OF YOUR HAND MAKES IT OVERFLOW

Huh. I thought Java moss only grew in Java, which is an island in malaysia?

Anyway looking good from what I can see through the blur :p

Nice :D The 'tank' is cool.

However that doesn't look like java moss.

Java moss has much smaller leaves. Each leaf on java moss is about 1mm long or less.
