I noticed today that one of my fish had gotten it's tail sucked into the filter pipe  . Luckily I was able to free it and it's still alive. It's not doing good and it's tail is bent pretty bad, but for now it's still alive. I have several small fish that this could happen to. I was wondering how to go about covering up the filter pipe to stop this. I've heard of people putting a mesh material over it. Where would I go about finding this mesh material and how would I go about installing it? Or if any of you have different methods I'd love to hear it. I just need some help ???? !

A filter sponge works better. Look for AquaClear filter sponges at your lfs. Poke a hole in it with a sharp knife, being careful not to stab your hand or leg, and slide it over the intake. Yes I have stuck my hand and leg, learn from my mistakes.

or you could do what i did: cut off the mesh from a net and use a rubber band to attach it over the intake  looked horrible but it got the job done.

You can buy cheesecloth at the grocery store for about $1. It's nice to have on hand for a variety of reasons, and makes a reasonable cover for filter intakes. :good:
