hey,

all questions are on two tanks, two 3.5 U.S G (12"x8"x8"). the hornwort is the only thing except water in the one 3.5g, the other has java moss on bogwood, java ferns , twisted vallis, a crypt and water lettuce, with a fluval 1 filter, about 20 Malaysan Trumpet snails, pea gravel and 35w halagon light. i should really inject co2 as the wpg is so high but i haven't.

1. i was readng about someone and their crypt, how was i meant, i cut the roots off and then placed it into the gravel. right thing to do? quite a few leaves sort of went yellow and when i touched them they dissolved. it looks great now with nice green leaves just wondering incase i get another one.

2. my water lettuce after being put in the water floating like it should but now the leaves are doing like the crpyt and are pratically melting. so now they don't look to good but some leaves are green but they are out of the water.

3. my twisted vallis seems to have gone a brown colour is this normal?

4. my hornwort in my fry tanks seems to have something wrong with it, it's hard to describe but the leaves are falling off and looks sort of 'stringy' wrong word but i'm not sure would you would call it.

i'll add a 2 pics aswel to show you the tank sorry about picture quality as they are with webcam but it gives you an idea of the tanks.

the hornwort in the picture was just after it had been put in, now it has lot's of bits all over the floor of the tank.

thank you for any help in advance.

:good:

I have seen this symptom of the hornwort losing its leaves when there is lots of salt in the water.

Crypts go through 'crypt melt' when they are relocated. I hope you have not cut off all the roots

not all the roots just till they were less than an inch long as they were about 5 inches long and i couldn't plant them at first, the crypt is fine now.

there is no salt in the water either.

:good:

I've never removed any roots when planting crypts, and have never had a problem. Crypts, as has been said, are often sensitive to changes in their location/water, and it's usual to loose a few leaves to "melting". I'd be interested to know the logic behind removing the roots - got a link?

Thanks,

Rob.

"logic" a bit lol, it made all the roots 'plantable' as i struggled to get the roots in the gravel and it was in a plastice pot which had to be cut off aswel.
