Yep, well they made a maze thing for some goldfish etc. and proved otherwise. You can also do a Google, theres a link that says they found a fish could remember how to do something 6 months later.
Oh my. I remember that being a big thing quite some years back. I thought it was quite amusing back then, before I had fish of my own and I can say for sure they have a memory of a great deal longer then that. I guess the lifespan of the species might have an effect on memory but not necessarily. After all some humans can remember well back into their infancy all their lives when others can't remember their childhood much at all. But 3 seconds is ludicrous. How would they know to recognise other fish and who to avoid. And who it is who is approaching their tank.
