Hi,

I have a 10g tank and currently have 4 neons, 2 zebra danios and one bristlenose catfish. I've had the neons and the catfish for about 3 months and the danios for about one month.

The neons were happy and active until I added the danios and now they spend most of their time hiding under a ceramic log, not that the danios seem to harass them much at all. I was wondering if I got more neons (maybe 4 or 5) to create a proper school they would be happier to venture out? Or do zebras and neons just not mix? The neons seem perfectly healthy other than this problem.

Also, I originally had 3 danios but I found one of them dead with an open belly and no innards after its first night. I suspect it was sick when I bought it and had died of natural causes and was then made a snack of by the catfish. Does that sound feesable?

I'm a complete noob and this is my first tank so any help is much appreciated, I really want to help the neons because I don't like to see them hiding in their own home. Thanks.

danios are schooling fish and need to be kept in groups of at least 5.
they also need a larger than 10 gallon tank due to their activness.

failure to follow these points will result in every fish in your tank being killed by the danios, untill there is one alpha male danio, who wil die of stress related problems.

My advise is take the danios back to the LFS or rehome them in a bigger tank and get some more.

It's not what I wanted hear, I really like those stripey little buggers but I want to keep the peace so they'll be going back as soon as. Thanks, nice webpage page to.
