Hi guys, I set my tank up on Thursday evening and everything was fine, and yesterday I woke up to find that my water had because cloudy, so I did some research and I have found out that it is probably a bacteria bloom. I moved my filter up a little bit so that it would now take in air as well as the water, would this make it any quicker? Also I did a 25% water change this morning, and was this the correct thing to do because nothing seems to be happening at the minute, as it is still cloudy.

Many Thanks

This is quite normal and nothing to worry about. The only thing it really does is use up a lot of oxygen so make sure your filter output is disturbing the water surface a lot, which I think is what you've already done. It'll clear on its own once the bacteria use up all the organic matter it is currently feeding on and you don't need to do anything else. Of course there are several other things that can cause cloudiness but if it's been running clear for a couple of days and the cloudines just suddenly appeared then it's almost certainly a bacteria bloom.

Are you doing a fishless cycle? Your filter intake should be completely below the water surface. The outflow should be disturbing the water surface.

Yeah that sounds like bacterial bloom as prime said it won't do any damage if anything its doing good by helping the bacteria in the filter grow leave it and it will clear up in a few days.

Yeah, my filter is below the surface and on the side of it is says minimum water level and it is the water level is above that. I have the vent open so that it creates bubbles as well whereas before the air vent was closed and below the water, which the instruction booklet said you can do, and the filter still worked.
