Hi people. I have a couple of questions regarding my Betta.

I have recently got a new aquarium, a Juwel Vision 260. It is around 60gallons?.

Anyway, it is 4 ft long and 2 ft high, the front glass curves as you probably well know and starts at the ends as a foot, then goes to around 18 inches then back again...

With those dimensions, and bearing in mind that I have placed a few caves etc, do you think it is big enough for another male to share with him? Doe you think they could be there together and have their own territory?

Also, I recently aqquired four Zebra Danios from a friend, and my Betta all of a sudden has a torn tail, Im sure these are the culprits. I have seperated him from the tank temporarily... If I buy more Bettas, say have a school of ten or twelve, will they stop picking on the other fish in the tank?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated...

Thank you..

Uhm, i don't think a school of bettas would be good.

I think you would need to have more fish in the 60 gallon instead of just the two bettas.

Sorry about that!

Im not a fish keeping newbie, I meant Zebras! Obviously I would never try to have a school of Bettas! That would be war.

No, if I had a school of ten or twelve Danios instead of the four, would they create their own pecking order and leave the other fish alone?

I do have other fish in the tank... Here is my population... I have 9 Corydoras (6 Bronze and 3 Albino), 8 Neon Tetras, 1 Rubbernose Plecostomus, 1 Betta Splendens and 4 Zebra Danios.

Personally I wouldn't put two bettas together in the same tank no matter how big it is, especially not without a divider.

Nope - no mixing of males or males/females in any tank, regardless of tank size. You will come home to find one or both, or many dead. It's a shame, because males are stunning. :D

The only bettas that can be mixed in a group are the females alone. And in fact, a school of ten to twelve females is ideal! It spreads the aggression around and would probably work beautifully! Wouldn't work out with the tetras you have, though, or the amount of fish. (Those may just be the fin-nippers, by the way.)

Yeah, the danios would be happier in a larger group!

It's actually a 68 gallon tank, which is really nice. :D I don't have the brains right now :X to calculate how many danios would be safe to put in there, but I'm sure that many wouldn't be causing any problems with overstocking.

As for your male, it could be any of the tankmates that are causing problems. Some bettas can slip into a community tank without a problem, others just can't make it. You may just need to get him own tank for his own safety.

They WILL fight even tho 60 gallons is alot. I will guarantee they will wind up fighting. I also wouldn't mix zebra danios and bettas either. Maybe go for some livebearers I've had plenty of luck with mixing them with bettas.

Would a Tetra be strong enough to physically tear the tail of my Betta?

Ah, sorry for the misunderstanding :)

Though, I must admit, a school of bettas would sure be pretty!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just to clarify, your tank is 57 UK Gallons. :good:

Why do they make two different gallon sizes for different sides of the pond?! LOL silly people.

I have the Juwel Vision 180, and I am officially jealous of your 260. Gorgeous tanks though :)

Well, you may be a bit jealous when you find out how much I paid for it...

I got it second hand. Including the stand and an Eheim 2236 (worth £84.99) for £175!

The aquarium and stand are worth around £650 new...

I should have collected it in a stripy jumper and a black balaclava!
