I have a tank that has had 2 female apisto's in it for well over a year, a failed attempt at pairing, and the male was killed... they used to spend their time on opposite ends of the tank, but lately they are OK being neighbors, not sharing a cave, but no longer seem to need to be out of line of sight, and one has changed color pattern, maybe to look more like a male??? but they seem to be getting along better, now that they don't look like twins... they are both out in the open more, rather than defending their spot???

It could be that with their age and the lack of need, they could be dialing down their hormones. That's just a guess though.

are these the panduro - if so with the male they would be competitors without the male safety in numbers.

a few pictures at feeding time this morning , both visible in the top picture, one in the foreground, next to a rummy...
