so i got comet on saturday, but he went into a golfish bowl temporarily while i got his tank totally sorted (wanted to get the heater set just right so he didn't fry) and on sunday he got transfered to his new home, he seemed fairly happy. :)
its a 16l bare bottomed tank with a heater, the powerhead from a stingray filter (with a filter sponge wrapped around it to reduce the flow) to circulate the heat properly, and a little pot planted up with a few bits of vallis and a bit of cabomba. Temp is steady at 81c.
anyway i came into the living room this morning, and there was a little pile of bubbles in the corner closest to me! (he sits on my computer desk)
and that means he's happy right?
i've been feeding him a mixture of live daphnia and livebearer flake food, both of which he seems to love! i use a pipette to suck up the daphnia and drop them in for him and also use it to pick up small portions of the flake food (because its tiny little pieces, its difficult to get just a small amount with my fingers) i feed him small portions several times a day (3 or 4 daphnia at a time etc)
he's very active, constantly exploring his tank, although occasionally he will stop in my corner of the tank and watch what i'm doing on the computer, or do a little dance for me!
please can i get a few replies on this just to let me know i'm doing ok or what i should be changing? also how soon should i do his first water change? i'm quite a paranoid person and i just want my baby to be happy!
sorry for waffling on and on, but i'm sure a lot of you understand how i feel. i don't want my first betta to suffer because i'm learning and don't quite know what i'm doing.
so :thanks: in advance for any advice.

To pick up the flakes separately, you might want to try dipping a skewer in water and touching it to a flake you want to pick up. It should stick to it.

Thats really great news, I was stoked the first time my betta made a bubblenest. Feeding live foods is the best way to bring out the colour and vitality in Bettas, so the daphnia would be super excellent for him.

thats sort of like what i do, but i use the pipette rather than a skewer. might have to go and buy a pack of skewers instead though. but its not really possible to pick up just one flake of the livebearer food, i usually get several at a time because the flakes are really tiny! but he gobbles them up quicksmart so i don't THINK i'm putting too much in at a time, could be wrong though.

his colour is excellent, really vibrant there are some badly taken pics of him here. i know he's probably not show quality or whatever, leedsboi commented on his crooked rays, but i think he's gorgeous and i love him.
i can see a bit of an obsession in the making
