Hello everyone,

I just want to say a big thank you to all the regular posters on this site as it was all of you that got me into the hobby!

I was floating around the idea of starting my own tank for a few months before christmas and it wasn't until i found this site that i finally got the inspiration to go for it. I have been floating about the forum picking up as much advice as i can get and I now have my first ever tropical planted tank up and running.

It's a 35 litre arcadia arc tank, with original filter, 50W heater and 2 x 11W lights @ 8 hours per day.
I dose 1ml easycarbo every day, 3.5ml Profito per week.
Tenants: 2 pearl danios, 3 pristella tetra, 3 cherry shrimp and 1 otocinclus (i had two but one died after a week). The danios are just about to be re-housed in my friends 55 gallon as they need a bigger tank and more company.
Plants include amazon sword, egeria densa, vallis (twisted i think), bogweed, dwarf hairgrass and others idon't know the name of.

Once the danios have been collected i will be planning on getting more tenants but just not sure what yet. I plan to get more cherry shrimps and may eventually try my hand at breeding them so that may become an over-riding factor.

I would post pictures but every pic i have taken with my digital camera looks absolutely terrible! lol

Anyway, as i said, thanks to all those who contributed to my tank without even knowing it :hyper:

Looks great! Especially for a first tank, will look fantastic once all the plants are grown in.

Only niggle is the grass like plant at the back on the right hand side (and I think there may be another one in the middle behind the wood), this is 'mondo grass' - Ophiopogon japonicus - and is a non-aquatic which will soon start to rot and/or attract algae :good:.

Replace this with more vallis, or some other suitably tall aquatic plant, and the tank will be perfect :D.

Thanks three_fingers, your comments are appreciated. I did not realise that about the grass plant and to be honest i'm pretty gutted as i bought it on the advice of what i thought was the most reputable LFS in my area. Oh well, trust no-one!lol I'l remove it and get something else. Do you have any other suggestions as to what to get as the vallis doesn't seem to be doing too well in my tank? It started off growing really well at the back of the tank but when i moved it to the side it has been slowly dying away...It is still growing runners though?! Also, i would prefer not to get anymore egeria densa even though it is doing really well. It doesn't seem to fill the back like i expected it to and it's growing roots everywhere all the way up the plant!!

Thanks!
