A Betta With Cherry Barbs?

I've Betta in a 10 gal. I'm just wondering if its ok to put them in with my betta?Well.Please Help.

as i racall barbs are fin nippers arent they? If you put them in with ur betta ur betta will have no fins left in a week or he will kill them defending himself.

Last I checked, Cherry Barbs were considered a semi aggressive fish. My wife has owned a few in the past. Personally, I wouldn't pair up the two.

I read somewhere that Cherry Barbs were the only barbs considered to be suitable tank mates for bettas... I don't know that first-hand, though. But I'd still be afraid of them nipping at my betta's fins... so I won't personally try it.

I'll go with you guys because I'm new to bettas and I wouldn't know.But I do know corys aren't nippers so they would be cool in a pair,right?

I have cherry barbs and a betta BUT i've never kept them together. Cherry barbs are pretty peaceful but they can get a little nippy with each other. I often come home to find on of them with a rip in its tail and once half of the tail was just gone all together. Only two of my barbs behave like this though, so I guess it just depends on the fish. The same thing with bettas. Some bettas do fine with other fish and others just don't. You can't really know how a betta that has been kept will interact with other fish until you have put them in that situation. They could be okay or they can do a complete personality flip on you. Good luck though; they're both great fish.

Cherry barbs are like most fish that like groups on there own they may never nip your betta but if you put them in a group of maybe 6? they feel secure enough to start nipping so a few would be fine but some people have had bad experiences with cherry barbs i have never personally tryed it as i dont like barbs! i had a very bad experience with a group of 13 neon tetras all nipped my betta but tryed the betta with 2 neons and he was fine!
