I have the 9W 'fish r fun' internal UV sterilizer and the way i've gotten into the impeller was by pushing the elbow piece into the outlet and then pulling it out again. After a few goes at this the side of the pump housing comes off to reveal the impeller. I found this out by accident.

Hope that helps! :good:

Edit: By the way it's the side opposite the cable entry that comes off.

has anyone managed to get in an clean the inside the bit that holds the bulb?? i had a look but its held together by some funny screws ..

not sure if you need to clean it between bulb changes but i would think you would have to ..

I have the 24 watt version of the one I think you are talking about. I have not had to access the impeler yet, thanks for the tip. As for cleaning the inside of the bulb casing - they sell replacement bulbs for that with the new casing. They are meant to be maintenance free, and so the "replacement bulb" I ordered came with the whole casing.

This is the unit I am assuming you have:

lol, I found the 24 watt one for much cheaper than that.

Anyway, like I said, replacement "bulbs" actually come with the whole black tube and little blue sponge filter.

I've seen these filters on e-bay and wondered if they were any good? What do you guys who use them think of them as they are far cheaper than the Vecton ones...sorry to but in, but just curious to get the views of those who have actually got them.

yeah there good like, i got one to get rid of green water, went from pea soup green to crystal clear in about 4-5 days, never had any big diseases to speak of in the tank since adding it ether.. was the 9watt version i got

I attached the 9w model to my 240l brackish tank to help clear up a never ending bacterial bloom / cloudiness and it worked suprisingly well. I wanted to clean the bulb section a few days ago, too, thinking I could get into the holding section. I didn't realise I have to buy a whole new bulb / bulb case. I assumed I could just fit a 9w UV bulb. D'oh!
