Well, I went to Rena's website to find more info on this setup, http/www.rena.net/en_gb/products/aquariums/aquarama_80.asp This only info I could find on the filter is that it's 500 liters/hour. That's great turnover for the tank size. Also if the filter uses certain cartridges, you can always use a mesh bag and put in what media you want.

However, the lighting is only 18W, so you would need to upgrade the lighting if you are doing a planted tank.

A good rule of thumb is 5 times your water amount for filtration as long as you have that much or more, you're good
