yeah i am new to the hobby and im just wondering how many tropical fish i can keep in a 8.7 gal tank ...thanks...and btw that applys to big fish and community fish either both together in or not....thanks
The general guide is to have an inch of adult size fish per gallon of water. (this applies only to fish which stay under 3 inches) If i had that tank i would have a betta (fighting fish) and 3 or 4 african dwarf frogs. As it is limiting what you can add most fish like to be in groups of 6+ of the same variety and there just isn't room.
There are a few fish on there which i wouldn't keep in an 8.7 gal tank. Khuli loaches grow 4 inches and should be in groups. Rams are territorial so unless it was one on its own that wouldn't work.
3 sparkling gourami and a few shrimp would be nice. They are quite difficult to sex when young and when i got 5 i ended up with 4 male and a female so they would fight a lot, if you get a dwarf or honey gourami instead of the betta they would be fine with shrimp or maybe a few of one of the dwarf corys (c.habrosus, c.hastatus or c.pygmeous)
