75 Gallon Stocking ideas..

Hey guys, so I just picked up a 48Lx24Hx15"W tank and stand for nothing...now I need some ideas on what to stock it with. I want cichlids, south or central american preferably. I wanted some larger cichlids such as red devils, but realise the footprint of the tank isnt the best for this, or is it?

Anyways, any help on what I could stock this with would be appreciated Thanks.

Discus is the way to go baby. Also severum is nice as well, I kept both on 2 different tank they all r beautiful, ofcourse discus is way more beautiful then severum but they aren't as hardy as severum. If you dicide to go with discus. They r well known for their beautiful coloration. I love snowflake and blue diamond. But as u see on my discription I only have blue diamond my LFS dont have snowflake for sell. This is just my opinion tho. If you really going for discus make sure u read planty of books and have the tank set up for about 2 weeks atleast and have a few hardy fish intank before stocking any of them. Discuse can not be put into a all new cycled tank. They need aged water and good water condition to be healthy. So dump a few swordtail/feeder inside to produce ammonia for the cycle runs smoothy. And after a monthes if you see no problem with the fish you put in then you take them out/sell/give away those testing fish. And u go for discus. The reason I suggest u do this is minimize the $ you would lose. Back in my first keeping discus I was so newbie and put the discus into a newbie cycled tank and they all die. Good luck buddy.

the tank is ok for cichlids,but they are nasty bu***rs.i,ve had them.if you want to keep them,really do your research as i made a costly mistake and put the wrong cichlids togeather.

Dont get me wrong, I know what cichlids are like...I have 5 tanks already dedicated some nasties Im just running a little low on ideas what I could do with this tank due to the funky footprint of it.

Thanks for the suggestion IMCL85 but I cant stand discus at all . Its nothing personal..just dont like them!

How about a mix of middle sized central americans like firemouths and sajicas and a couple of other similar sized. Could be interesting.

There's some really nice blue jack dempseys in the LFS, they look awesome. I don't know anything about JDs though, so you'd have to research and see if they'd be fine in that tank.

I'd ask on the new world cichlid section since they would know beter than anybody.
