I' we researched it for quite some time and I figured that I want a wery planted discus tank and I am wondering what plants do you recomend and what fish are compatable (corrys, loaches, maybe some tetras...) ld love to have some apple snails or crabs or something like that in there too. I will build it a 6*2*2 and do you recomend any acessories like uv sterilisator, ro unit...

Forget the r/o unless your water is liquid rock. Do not put in loaches. They are much to active for the discus. If you are going with a planted tank start with 6 adults. Do not try to raise smaller discus unless you like the look of stunted discus. Plumb the tank in so water changes will be easy.

Good luck.

OK, so now i tought for a little more and I came out with this stock list:
-6 discus
-6 angels
-5 kissing gouramis
-5 pearl guramis
-15 corys
-25 black skirt tetras
-20 hatchet tetras
-a pair of bolivian rams

I will be using a very powerful DIY filter, which should be able to deal with these fish.
So what do you think, and the tank is going to be a litle bigger to (instead of 180 gal its going to be 233 gal (thats like 648litres (before) and 840litres (after).

Sorry for any speling mistakes I made and please dont be rude to me, because I'm tring to make my dream tank (which won't be done for at least a year or so, and I have a lot of time to dream and think about possibilities)(I am sorry if this suggestionabout you being rude is without a function (I don't mean to insult you..))
Have a good morning...

not sure gouramis and angels work well with discus. discus are very shy fish. smaller tetras should be ok though

What are your water parameters, out of the tap? r/o may not be neccessary and if you can get away without it, I would. Search for a breeder near you and you may find that they are raising discus in water that is similar to yours. This would be your best bet.

Black skirt tetras prefer a cooler water temp than discus, you may run into problems there. Tetras that tend to do well in a discus tank are cardinals and rummynose.

Many plants will not do well in the warmer water required for discus. Amazon swords and Cryptocoryne tend to do well.

John_Nicholson has some good advice in his post. Purchase adults if you are going with a planted tank, raising young ones into healthy full sized discus will not be easy in the setup you want.

Think twice about the gouramis, the temperature is not ideal for them and it's not a combination one sees, so there is probably a good reason for it. Good discus tankmates are not many since they require conditions that are fairly specific. Discus must be your focus and everything else, tankmates, plants, decor, water parameters and maintainance needs to be done with the discus as your priority. No compromises. This is why many reccomend a bare-bottom species tank for first time discus keepers.

I'm not trying to dissuade you! You are planning ahead and that is good. Just trying to help. My dream tank also includes discus and plants and my ideas have evolved as I research things, yours will too.

I am thinking of leaving discus behind in this dream as I want like a realy diverse tank, and ther just aren't enough mates that are compatable with discus. :-( :-( :-(
So after a little more research I tought that I would replace them in this plan with some angels or guaramis, and ad some more difrent tetras like red heads (Idon't know if this is the name (maybe the name is rumy nose tetra (not sure)))
I am sorry for al of my bla, bla, bla... (but you know I would really like to think it all over in thi year and a little of time)

PS: could a moderator move this into the chit chat section, because it's not realy that much chiclid now.

Have a good evening
