I am posting for a friend(he doesnt have the internet),his grandad died :-( (i new him very well)He has inherited his grandads custom built tank(650 imperial gallons, thats uk)anh he wants central american cichlids, its got a large surface area(havent measured it yet)but hes no novice i can tell you!Hes kept africans aslong as i can remember(he has 2 300 gallon tanks)so he wants a challenge,i suggested to him a large schoal of silver sharks, but he said cichlids,he said he wants 6 oscars, a breeding pair of jack dempsys, god nows how many plecos!he loves them, anyways can you give me some ideas

  I'D BE LIKE A KID IN A CANDY STORE ,an expencive candy store  . Thats a big tank , I would be so overwelmed  :dunno: , I'm ovrwelmed just thinking about it ,...........I'll have to get back to you .

Even in a tank that size he will still be quite limited if stocking with large cichlids, each pair will require a minimum of 75 gallons to avoid aggression. Also the exact measurements of the tank will determine exactly what and how many cichlids he can add, a long and wide tank is prefferable to a tall one as it offers more floor space for territories to be formed. On the guess that the tank is around 12 feet long, 3 feet wide and 3 feet tall i would say you couldnt safely keep more than 6 pairs of large cichlids, of course there would still be pleanty of room for large schooling fish and plecs.

there are alot of nice cichlids that he could keep in there. would not reccommend the plecos though. tried putting one even a large one with mine and we just called him lunch. depends on the aggression level that he wants to keep in there. could do devils :D
